“How it all began”

After natural gas was discovered in the Gulf of Siam in 1973, Thailand, which previously had no known oil resources, began a process of industrialization based on energy self-sufficiency. The eastern seaboard, comprised of Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong provinces, because of its proximity to Bangkok and suitability for the development of a deep-sea port figured prominently in the eyes of development planners. Against this background, the Thai government made the development of the region one of the priority issues in the Fifth National Economic and Social Development Plan (1982-1986) and created the Eastern Seaboard Development Committee with the Prime Minister serving as chairman to aid in its development.

Amata Corporation, a Stock Exchange of Thailand-listed industrial estate celebrates in 2025 the 50 years in business of its founder, Mr Vikrom Kromadit, and the success of the group’s business operations in Thailand and Vietnam.

The story of Amata Corporation started in the mid-1970’s, when Mr Vikrom, a then young graduate from the Taiwan National University set up on an entrepreneurial journey in his native country, Thailand. After forays in import-export and business consulting, he entered the industrial estate business. Amata now manages full-service industrial parks in Thailand and Vietnam that are home to a total of over 1,500 global manufacturing companies.

Amata’s clients include many Global Fortune 500 (2023) groups such as BASF, BMW, Bosch, Bridgestone, Brystol-Myers Squibb, Cardinal Health, Conch, Denso, Foxconn, GAC, Idemitsu, Magna, Mitsubishi Chemical and Mitsubishi Electric, Nestlé, NTT, PepsiCo, Posco, Sony, Toyota Tsusho, Toyota, etc.

At AMATA, we have accomplished all that we once dreamed of, yet our dreams are never-ending as we continue to build beyond tomorrow. Because our dreams are Eternal Dreams. “Dreams nourish the soul and serve as a compass, guiding me toward my destination,” said Mr. Vikrom. Dreams have shaped Amata’s legacy and continue to guide our Chairman’s vision for the future. The word “Amata,” derived from Sanskrit, means “Eternal,” which inspired the theme of this event: Eternal Dreams.

According to its 2023 annual report, 45 subsidiaries and associate companies in which Amata Corporation holds shares directly or indirectly operate industrial estates, provide urban development, utilities, and services, or serve as holding companies.

Amata Corporation is the major shareholder of Amata VN PCL., also a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand since 2015. All investments and businesses in Vietnam are made through Amata VN.
